Patti Pietschmann

If you're lucky enough to live in the Islands or will be n Oahu for Father's Day in June with your dad, here's a tip, treat him to dinner at Chef Mavro which is owned and operated by one of Hawaii's top chefs. Trust me, we've dined at this romantic eatery that sits just 15 minutes by cab or car from Waikiki.

Chef Mavro restaurant ihas created a special dinner - with new choice of Small Plates to build your own meal OR a  9-course Grand Tasting. And they are firing up the grill!  Call (808) 944-4714 or reserve online.

Getting rubbed the right way at The Hidden Spa on Maui

A little gem with reasonsable prices and a therapist named Brian
A Patti Pietschmann travel diva find

I arrived on Maui injured from a bad chiro session in LA and surfed the web to find a reasonably-priced therapist and DID. Brian's manipulation and technique was so effective I bought a package of six massages for $350. A la carte they cost $75 and up. It's no frills meaning there isn't a steam, showers or sauna but al I needed was good, deep body work and I  got it.

I arose from the table relaxed and nearly pain-free heading back to Brian in two days.

The spa menu also includes waxing, facials, and more just check out the web site.

A very pleasant visit to Delta Lounge at LAX

Great food, wine and comfort
Patti Pietschmann

These wraps are delicious
Even though Delta was in the midst of a major terminal change at LAX there was little disruption at is attractive Sky Lounge. (Although we had to stroll over tp Terminal 2 as the one in Terminal wasn't ope yet).  In fact a two hour visit waiting for our flight to Maui proved very comfortable. It is stocked with all sorts of snacks and they even brought food around--like a delicious kale and fish salad. Even this wine sob approved the labels. There's also booze and other beverages.

Beverage and snack selections Delta Sky Club at Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 at LAX. Terminal 3 Club location opens on May 24 and will be available during  enhancements scheduled for completion by January 2018. The Club at Terminal 2 — opening May 13 — will have showers, so you can get refreshed after a long
We enjoyed a delicious chicken dinner in First Class en route to Maui (this dining Diva rarely raves about airline food)

Palm Springs to undergo major downtown revitalization project

Bringing back the heydays of Hollywood

Patti Pietschmann

Once a mecca for Frank Sinatra's famous Rat Pack and A-list celebrities, Palm Springs continues to attract new and  younger players--along with old timers, golfers and a large LGBT contingent.  The area maintains its allure with upgrades, new finer dining options, additional hotels and soon a major revitalization of bustling downtown by Grit Development, formerly Wessman Developmen. The Palm Springs revitalization project opens this fall to complement the Desert playgroundreturn to its Hollywood glory days. "After a decade of planning and hard work, we're thrilled to share the project is near completion and the line-up of tenants to date," said Grit Development President Michael Braun. "Dozens of tenants will open this summer with the Kimpton Rowan Hotel officially opening to the public in September. We are on track for a full grand opening in Mid-November."
 New businesses include:
  • Kimpton Rowan Hotel, boutique hotel with design-forward guestrooms and suites, restaurants with chef-driven seasonal fare and city's only rooftop pool and bar.
  • H&M, one of the world's largest fashion retailers offering fashion-forward apparel at affordable prices in a sustainable way.
  • Free People, a specialty clothing brand featuring the latest trends for women who live free through fashion, art, music, and travel.
  • francesca's, a boutique that offers an eclectic mix of carefully-curated clothing, bright baubles, bold accessories, and playful gifts that are as fun to give as they are to receive.
  • Kiehl's, a brand retailer that specializes in skin, hair and body care products.
  • Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar, the island-inspired brand with stores and restaurants worldwide.
  • Starbuck's Reserve, an upscale version of the coffee chain.
  • Stout Burgers & Beers, a simple, upscale neighborhood restaurant that offers gourmet burgers and a vast selection of artisanal draft and bottled beers.
  • Il corso, a fine diner that offers genuine Italian hospitality, authentic Italian dishes including homemade pastas, gourmet wood oven pizza, seafood and roasted leg of veal.
"This line-up shows the quality and diversity of tenants to come," added Braun. "Once complete, this project will put Palm Springs back on the map as a top destination. Visitors can enjoy staying at luxurious accommodations, shopping eclectic brands and dining at incredible restaurants -- all within walking distance and surrounded by beautiful scenery and views few can match."

Hotel Le Toiny: a little slice of high-priced paradise on beauteous St. Barths

Ooh la la Le Toiny
By Patti Pietschmann

One of my favorite island getaways, St. Barths in the French West Indies, is also home of a precious little gem of a hotel Le Toiny where the rich and/or famous flock for fun in the sun and relaxation (along with other discerning travelers who can afford the tab). Vacationing in St. Barths doesn't come cheap but you do get value for your buck (or euro) like joie de vivre, balmy air, warm crystal clear waters, some of the best cuisine in the islands and plutocratic playground/hideaways such as Hotel Le Toiny--possiby the most iconic 25-year-old hotel in St. Barth.

And for the start of the island's high season December 15, 2017 there will be eight new villas for your vacation pleasure that will  include four one-story One Bedroom Villas, three two-story One Bedroom Villas (the hotel’s first-ever two-story offerings), and one two-story Two-Bedroom King Villa. True to Hotel Le Toiny’s signature style, all of the new accommodations will be fully secluded and freestanding, with private infinity pools and terraces overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

Each one-bedroom villa includes a spacious master bedroom with en suite bath featuring a soaking tub, shower and double vanity, as well as a separate sitting area, kitchenette and large terrace with private infinity pool. The two-story villas will feature these same elements, with the sitting area and kitchenette on the first floor and two master suites on the upper level, offering incredible views from private open-air balconies.

The new villas’ design will keep with the hotel’s refreshed aesthetic – bright whites, creamy neutrals, ocean-inspired accents and strategic pops of color to highlight ocean views and lush island surroundings. Luxury textiles and Bamford amenities will round out the experience.

The hotel’s new one-bedroom villas will sleep up to three guests with 1,184 – 1,400 square feet of indoor and outdoor living space. The two-story Two Bedroom King Villa will sleep up to six with more than 2,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space.

Rates at Hotel Le Toiny will start from $1,379 per night when the hotel reopens in November after its annual closing season.  For additional information visit
A little back story
Since my last visit a couple of years ago  Le Toiny showcases 14 recently-renovated and completely private standalone Villa Suites (in addition to the eight that open in December). The boutique retreat, which is about a 20 minute drive from Gustavia, is set on 42 secluded acres on St. Barth’s undeveloped Côte Sauvage.
Villa Suites come with views, spacious accommodations outfitted with luxurious textiles,  kitchenettes, large terraces and private heated swimming pools.

There is a lovely pen-air restaurant that serves some mighty fine food, a Serenity Spa Cottage, fitness center and the newly added tres casual chic Toiny Beach Club.

Tips: pack lots of sunscreen, insect repellent (which is always a good idea whenever you go to the islands), bikinis, fashionable frocks, and a good attitude. Do take a ride over to Shell Beach (just outside the heart of Gustavia).

Also be sure to check out some of the other fine dining venues on the island.
